Seriously, the stupidity of some people makes Timm look highly intelligent. I'm browsing around the internet looking for pictures of bands I like, to practice drawing. Nothing's more challenging than trying to capture the energy in a musician's pose when they're mid-song. I happen across the Ska Union page on GameSpot forums. I am of course interested and begin reading through the thread Google threw at me. It's an old thread, a year out almost exactly. People are discussing whether Somewhere In The Between, the newest Streetlight Manifesto album, will be delayed again. The poll amused me somewhat, the most popular option declaring that yes, it would be delayed because SM is the Nintendo of the music industry. As I move down the posts I begin to get angrier and angrier. Only a moron would declare Catch 22's version of Keasbey Nights better than the SM remake. It wins hands down on music and sound quality. Thomas Kalnoky came straight out and said the original version was shit and that he wanted to redo the album so that the music sounded like music. Considering he's the guy who wrote the songs and anyone can tell that Catch 22's version sounds like it was recorded 30 minutes before a show there should be no contest over which is better. Well there's several morons on this thread trying to claim Catch 22 is god, and that Thomas Kalnoky sucks. Ironic since what they love he created. Some other children are complaining because Everything Went Numb wasn't happy-go-lucky ska and that trumpets didn't dominate These people frustrate me. Every time I try to have an intelligent conversation about ska on the internet with anyone, idiots like this pop up and ruin any form of conversation. It's to Thomas Kalnoky's merit that he can take depressing lyrical material and work it into a ska format. How many other bands can? These moronic forumites should just go back to straight punk rock if they can't handle the diverse ways that ska can be.
